Some Help to Get You Started

Have a question you’d like to ask? We are committed to giving clients the best care and experience that fits your needs. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health. Check out the answers to the FAQs below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.

Do you do couples therapy?

No, I do not. Because I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I might pop up as an option if you searched your insurance for couples work. If that is what you need, I am not the therapist for you.

How long does each therapy session take?

Individual sessions are 50-55 minutes. I also offer extended EMDR sessions to allow us to work through a traumatic event or long held belief.

What can I expect at my first session?

Starting therapy with someone new is nerve-wracking, so we do our best to honor what feels comfortable to you. We can ask questions, or are happy to give you the time to talk about what has been going on. During the first session, we will review what the process will look like, and we will talk about your struggles and what changes you are hoping for. We might talk a little bit about what our general direction and what our work together can look like.

What is therapy with you like?

That’s a good question. I am an active therapist - I don’t just bob my head and quietly empathize. More often than not, you will see my human reactions to our conversations. I get angry at injustices, sometimes on your behalf, I will laugh with you, I am always curious and asking questions, if I’m not sure about something, I’ll say so, and if I’m sad, I show it. I’ll answer your questions, but I don’t give advice, and I’ll challenge you if I see you caught in the patterns you are telling me you want to work on. I don’t do worksheets really, but I’ll sometimes suggest books, podcasts, or videos. Because I’m a human and imperfect, I own my weaknesses and my mistakes, and I apologize. I become a bit of a science nerd when we talk about the brain and the nervous system, but I truly want you to understand the research and science behind my suggestions and interventions - in fact I want to share the things I know so that you know them too. I am always learning, I always think there might be another way to address something if we aren’t seeing results, and I always have hope (or I maybe I’m just stubborn, but who’s to say). Most of all I love my job with my whole heart, and I think it shows in how I work.

Should I do anything to prepare for therapy?

Bring a willingness to explore what you think and believe, and be willing to ask questions. Be brave and curious. Get vulnerable. Understand that the work of therapy happens in the session, but also outside the session too, whether or not you have actual "homework." Give yourself the chance to grow.

Insurance and Fees

My rates for a 50-55 minute hour start at $160-$200.

At times it may be beneficial to hold 90 minute sessions; rates start at $200. Contact us to inquire about EMDR intensives.

Curious about using insurance?

Depending on your insurance provider or employee benefit plan, services may be covered partially or totally. I am in network with a number of insurance providers. I do not accept insurance for couples or family therapy.

Due to the nature of the health insurance system, I recommend contacting your insurance provider to better understand your particular benefits:

  • Is the therapist I wish to see considered in network for me? Is there a tier system, and if so, what tier is this therapist considered?

  • Do I have a copay, and if so, how much will it be?

  • Do I have a deductible? If so, is the deductible also applied to mental health benefits? Have I met the deductible yet?

  • Is there a limit to how many sessions I have in a year?

  • Do I need a prior authorization?

  • Do I have out of network benefits, and if so, what is covered?

We do work with individuals using out of network benefits, and are happy to provide you with a superbill to allow you to be reimbursed fully or in part by your insurance provider. We work with Reimbursify to make filing for your out of network benefits easier.
